MELASMA & PIGMENT CONCERNS
calm the shadows
The sun’s powerful rays can harm our delicate skin. Sun damage, or photoaging, occurs when the skin ages prematurely because of the sun’s effects. This happens when ultraviolet (UV) light hits unprotected skin, causing DNA changes at the cellular level.
Melasma is a unique form of hyperpigmentation driven by a combination of internal hormones and external sunlight. Elevated hormone levels—such as during pregnancy, perimenopause, or while using hormonal birth control—"prime" your skin, making your pigment-producing cells hyper-sensitive. When ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun hit this sensitive skin, they act as the ultimate trigger, sending those cells into overdrive and causing the characteristic dark patches to appear or darken. Essentially, hormones load the baseline sensitivity, and the sun pulls the trigger.
Our skincare specialists use advanced, medical-grade, personalized protocols to safely fade hormonal and sun-induced pigmentation without triggering rebound darkness.
Signs of sun damage begin in the teens to early twenties. Symptoms include the following:
Wrinkling
Pigmentation (Large Sun Spots, Freckles)
Decreased Skin Elasticity
Rough Skin Texture
HOW CAN WE TREAT EXCESS PIGMENTATION?
True correction requires a multi-faceted approach. We target hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and melasma from every angle using a customized, clinically proven strategy:
Medical-Grade Skincare (Suppress & Protect): High-potency topical agents regulate your pigment-producing cells at the cellular level, stopping discoloration before it reaches the surface.
Professional Chemical Peels (Exfoliate & Renew): Advanced, unbuffered acid solutions safely lift away superficial, sun-damaged layers, accelerating cellular turnover to rapidly fade stubborn dark spots.
Advanced Laser Treatments (Target & Shatter): Specialized, non-ablative wavelengths travel deep beneath the surface to precisely shatter dense melanin clusters without triggering the rebound inflammation that can worsen complex conditions like melasma.
By combining cellular suppression, accelerated shedding, and deep laser precision, we don't just temporarily mask discoloration—we comprehensively reset your skin's tone.
Your VI medical professional will customize which combination of treatments is best for you.

HOW CAN YOU PREVENT SUN DAMAGE?
It’s never too late to start focusing your attention on prevention! We, along with dermatologists, recommend utilizing a broad-spectrum sunscreen, which will guard you from UVA and UVB rays.
We also recommend opting for a sunscreen that is SPF 30 or higher and water-resistant for a steadfast defense. Reapply every two hours, even on a cloudy day! And don’t forget to apply to your hands!
Spending an extended amount of time in the sun? Opt for UPF clothing!
